Three Simple Ways to Deal with Holiday Stress

It’s the most wonderful time of the year, but it can also be the most stressful.

Cooking, cleaning, decorating and last-minute shopping can add to your anxiety.

Here are a few helpful tips to help you slow down and enjoy the holidays without the stress.

  • TAKE A BREAK: Sit down and take a few deep breaths.  Give yourself some “me” time and just relax.  Get away from all your distractions including the computer, TV and phone.  Close your eyes and think about what makes you happy during this time of year.  This simple step can help you recharge so you can tackle your to-do list.

  • ASK FOR HELP:  It’s not easy to do everything by yourself, so ask for some help!  Shopping with children is sometimes a challenge, so ask a family member to babysit while you go out.  Ask your spouse to help clean the house or wrap holiday presents.  If you’re hosting a holiday dinner, ask family members to bring a side dish or dessert so you don’t have to do it all yourself.  It also works the other way.  If you are going to a holiday party, ask whether you can bring anything or do something to help.  Even if your host says no, he or she will appreciate your offer.

  • STICK TO YOUR HEALTHY HABITS:  It’s easy to snack on all the wonderful treats available this time of year.  However, overindulging can lead to guilt and stress.  The occasional cookies and treats are OK, but try to remember to eat healthy snacks, get enough sleep and drink enough water so you don’t get dehydrated and rundown.  Unhealthy snacks and drinks can lead to acidity in the body.  Ionized alkaline water is the healthiest water to drink because it helps keep your pH in check and is more hydrating than regular water.  If you feel tired, stay away from energy drinks, which give you a temporary boost, but cause a big crash when all their sugars wear off.  Fatigue is usually a sign of dehydration, so remember to carry around your ionized alkaline water in a container designed to maintain its healthful properties while you are out and about.

Following these three steps will hopefully help you ease some of your holiday stress.  Take some time to enjoy this time of year and the true meaning of the season.

HAPPY HOLIDAYS!
